The McGill University Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences is one of Canada’s leading academic departments of ophthalmology & visual sciences. We have a Royal College accredited residency program, well-recognized fellowship programs, and an unparalleled international faculty of researchers, specialists, and subspecialists.

We are renowned for our basic and clinical research into understanding the mechanisms of vision, ocular genetics, retinal pathophysiology, glaucoma, and ocular immunology. Our patient care clinics are located at five principal sites: the McGill Academic Eye Centre, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Jewish General Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital.

Job Duties

The incumbent must also possess a strong background and proficiency in health care management. This individual will be called upon to take a leading role in future departmental projects such as telemedicine and advanced surgical techniques.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees). Clinical resources, allocation of operating time, and infrastructure support will be commensurate with needs.

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Hold an MD and hold, or be eligible for, licensure as an ophthalmologist in the province of Quebec;
- Have successfully completed a certified cornea fellowship;
- Demonstrate advanced capacity to engage in all aspects of a university affiliated ophthalmology department (i.e., clinical, education and/or research);
- Have strong interest in teaching and research;
