Water Infrastructure Branch is responsible for Manitoba’s dam safety program, inspecting provincial water control infrastructure and managing complex preservation programs. The branch also plans and delivers water-related capital programs and manages major water-related capital project teams. In addition it also develops water infrastructure design standards; provides design support for projects; manages engineering service provider activities; leads water-related environmental activities and provides flood operational and technical support.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must provide and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Must be able to travel frequently to work sites within the province by ground and air and be away from home for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work occasional extended hours, and in outdoor rough terrain and work environment in both winter and summer weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform physical requirements of the position including; standing for extended periods of time, lifting upto 25kg and wearing protective equipment.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of the Department’s Level 3 training program. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Project related experience in all aspects of water control construction such as survey, design, contract preparation and quality/quantity control.
- Knowledge of the construction, survey, and inspection procedures related to waterways/dams/dike embankments and culvert crossings.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to plan and organize staff.
- Knowledge of the department policies and construction specifications.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records, prepare effective correspondence and technical reports for a wide ranging audience.
- Ability to analyze problems and expedite decisions.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Experience and proficiency in the Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

**Desired**:

- Experience using engineering equipment and CAD software efficiently to access and review engineered drawings and retrieve information is desired.

**Duties**:
The Project Technician reports to the Construction Services Engineer. The incumbent provides construction management on projects of moderate complexity and supervision of assigned Department staff. The Project Technician performs responsible paraprofessional work, supporting engineers in waterway, dam, and embankment design, construction management and administrative functions while adhering to Department standards, policies and specifications. The position requires extensive interaction and co-operation with the Water Infrastructure Team to ensure the Department’s overall objectives are met.
