We are looking for a **Community Garden Worker**

**JOB SUMMARY**
Working in close collaboration with the OKIB Health Team and other OKIB Departments and staff, the OKIB Community Garden worker will maintain the community garden and will take part in crop production, site maintenance, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, distributing, and preserving food.

**WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.
- Certificate in Agriculture related studies (preferred)
- Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain
- Valid BC Driver’s License, minimum Class 5 and reliable vehicle
- Gardening and/or agricultural experience
- Food preservation or processing skills

**SUPPORTS NEEDED**
- Work with the Food Security team to accomplish farm and food security related tasks
- Plant, cultivate, and harvest various crops such as vegetables, fruits and horticultural specialties (eg, traditional medicines) and field crops
- Use hand tools such as shovel, hoes, pruning, shears, knives, and ladders
- Perform and execute the setting up, operation, and repair of garden equipment (eg, irrigation lines)
- Perform and execute maintenance and repair of fences and garden buildings, like the greenhouse
- Interact with community members visiting the garden space and aid in garden events
- Work in team and independently on garden projects
- Preform other duties that may be needed on the farm such as painting, building, general clean up, and other necessary taks.
- Work with the Food Security Team for any major events or distributions such as salmon distributions, garden parties, preserving, and workshops
- Perform other duties as required

**The successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check that includes the vulnerable sector.**

**Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal applicants as per section 41 of the Human Rights Code.**

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 6 months

**Salary**: $20.00-$23.18 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

**Location**:

- Vernon, BC (required)
