**POSITION**: Animal Transfer Driver

**STATUS**: Permanent; Full-Time

**SHIFT**: 35 Hours per week / Various Shifts

**LOCATION**: Abbotsford

**CLASSIFICATION**: CUPE 1622

**WAGE**: $ 18.44 per hour

**CLOSING DATE**: Internally: February 1, 2023 (Midnight EST) - Externally: Open Until Filled

**About the Position**:
The Animal Care Attendant (Animal Transfer) is responsible for the efficient, sanitary and humane transfer of animals while operating a BC SPCA vehicle. This job is expected to be done with the health and welfare of the animals as greatest concern during transportation process. The incumbent will also be responsible for the completion of an associated documentation to facilitate the transfer.

**Some specific duties**:
Primary Key Responsibilities
- Pick up and deliver animals to designated areas, including other shelters, hospitals, etc. and to do so humanely throughout the transfer process
- Sanitize cages in vehicle between each pick-up or delivery
- Ensure appropriate paperwork is completed and accompanies animal prior to transportation
- Work collaboratively with shelter staff and management regarding designated animals for pick-up or delivery
- Maintain records as required and insure that accurate and timely information is available
- Monitor number of animals in Shelters i.e. numbers of animals in kennels, the need for transportation in or out of a Shelter
- Deliver supplies to Shelters
- Keep vehicle clean, inside and outside and report maintenance repairs to the manager
- Monitor any animal during transportation for signs and disease and report findings to the Manager, Animal Transfer Program
- Other duties that may be assigned, including assisting with animal care in the shelter as needed

**Qualifications you need to have**:

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers’ License and driver’s abstract
- Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare
- Ability to work as a team player and demonstrable well-developed interpersonal skills
- Experience in handling animals
- Excellent verbal communication and handwriting skills
- 3 years’ experience with animals in a Shelter setting
