Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director, Annual Giving & Business Intelligence, the Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for statistical modeling exercises that allow for the prioritization of activities across University Advancement in addition to providing analyses on alumni and regional data, validating data selection for reports, and serving as cross-check for data use within University Advancement. As such, the incumbent would liaise with internal clients, including Systems, Annual Giving, Prospecting and Pipeline Management, Development Officers as well as other units within University Advancement. The Business Intelligence Analyst would also be responsible for handling data requests, maintaining data integrity on platforms and assisting other departments with technology integration.

Primary Responsibilities:
Analytics Program- Work with the Business Intelligence team to implement and oversee a comprehensive analytics program, to support the strategic information needs of University Advancement and its various Units.- Participate in the creation of a variety of data models that would assist various departments across University Advancement in lead generation and prioritization/identification of prospects or workflow.- Participate in statistical modeling, analysis and reporting to determine and optimize alignment of resources with the strategic plan, including constituent research, data mining, predictive modeling, forecasting and statistical analysis to identify trends and patterns in giving, volunteerism, event participation, alumni and donor behaviour, etc.;- Participate in the development of standards, as led by various Units, in regards to data collection both from internal and external sources- Ensure data integrity by investigating anomalies in reported numbers from a variety of sources throughout Advancement- Work with IT and Systems to ensure reporting standards are adhered to across different departments and units where information is shared.- Write and design project reports, executive summaries and white-papers on range of philanthropic issues, with particular focus on analytics, key performance indicators (KPIs) and emerging trends.- Play an active role in Key Performance Indicators development and monitoring, as led by the Unit - including developing reporting tools, reviewing existing data structures and researching emerging trends.

Statistical Analysis and Reporting Home- Work with Director, Annual Giving & Business Intelligence to report and present high level trend analyses, financial projections and data-insight in support of strategic planning for the Senior Management Team.- Ensure data integrity by investigating anomalies in reported numbers from a variety of sources throughout University Advancement.- Use analytical techniques to process large volume of data from multiple sources into actionable opportunities.- Conduct sophisticated ad hoc query data retrievals; provide analysis of data extracts as required.- Assist in the development of data visualization methods and reporting capabilities to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making.

Other Responsibilities- Utilize best-in-class data visualization tools to assist other departments in understanding and representing key information.- Keep abreast of technology trends and new BI tools, as well as researching, testing and presenting solutions for integration into existing processes.- Actively seek and collect industry and benchmarking data that support the business processes/outcomes of McGill University’s fundraising efforts.

Other Qualifying Skills/Abilities:
- Previous business intelligence experience in a non-profit fundraising environment.- Ability to understand business needs formulated by senior management and other internal clients and translate them into actionable analysis and information.- Proven experience translating business requirements into data requirements.
