At WorkplaceNL we work with workers, employers, stakeholders and our community partners to provide occupational health and safety education and help prevent workplace injury and illness in Newfoundland and Labrador. We also provide compensation and support to injured workers and their employers during recovery, rehabilitation and safe return to work.

**The opportunity**
We are currently looking for Health Care Benefits Assistants (HCBAs) to work as critical team members in our Claims Services Department. You will be accountable for determining entitlement to health care benefits and for processing payments of treatments and services as they relate to the compensable injury.

You will play a critical role in approving health care services and products that support the case management plan of a successful reintegration of an injured worker to the workplace. Entitlement to health care services and benefits is considered in respect to the appropriate legislation, policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for arranging workers' travel and accommodations to attend necessary medical treatment and assessment.

**More about the role**
Some key responsibilities of the Health Care Benefits Assistant position include:

- Provide information to injured workers, vendors, employers and internal staff on health care services related issues;
- Arrange travel and accommodations for injured workers and companion/attendant where appropriate; and
- Issue purchase orders and process payments, accurately and efficiently, and identify and advise Client Services Assistants or Finance Department of overpayments, for health care services or products approved by the Health Care Benefits Assistant or claim owner.

**Ideal qualifications**
- Minimum two-year diploma in Business Administration supplemented by one year of related experience;
- Must have demonstrated an ability to show initiative and possess independent judgment, well-developed interpersonal, written communication and organizational skills;
- Knowledge of Workplace Health, Safety & Compensation legislation, policies and procedures that relate to the position would be an asset; and
- A broad understanding and knowledge of medical terminology and MCP fee schedule would be an asset.

**Experience and an educational equivalency will be considered.**

**An eligibility list may be established from this competition to fill future vacancies within a period of six months from the date of this posting.**
