**Position Description**:
The Oncology Social Workers with the Garron Family Cancer Centre at SickKids are planning to implement a Psychosocial Screening and Response Pathway for caregivers of children with cancer. This will be a timebound, quality improvement-focused pilot aimed to improve the psychosocial care provided to caregivers. This project will involve conducting standardized screening, a formal social worker assessment and appropriate resource referral for caregivers. Additionally, capturing caregivers' experiences of this care pathway through collection of qualitative feedback will be included. Through this project our goals are to better identify caregivers needing supports, streamline the experience of supportive care for families and capture the impact this has on caregivers' perception of supportive care. The summer intern will be responsible for conducting screening of caregivers utilizing a standardized assessment tool, identifying 'medium and high-risk' caregivers to further assess, facilitate referrals to appropriate resources and conduct qualitative interviews with participant caregivers throughout the process.

- Assist with developing systems to facilitate care pathways
- Identify and engage eligible caregivers for assessment
- Facilitate standardized screening using screening tool
- Assist with the design and development of the flow of the project
- Engage in resource creation and referral planning
- Conduct qualitative interviews with care pathway participants
- Attend relevant program meetings to increase the awareness of the project
- Provide in-services to increase knowledge and awareness of the project
- Capture results of care pathway implementation and experience of caregivers engaged in this screening and response initiative
- Attend summer student lectureships/relevant education round (mandatory)
- Write and submit a 1-2 page research report at the end of the term (mandatory)

**Here's What You'll Need**
- ** Current enrollment in a Master of Social Work Program**:

- Excellent social work assessment skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills with experience with canva or other graphic design program an asset
- Good time management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Comfort working closely with oncology population
- Ability to work onsite for duration of internship
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

**Employment Type**

Summer internship (12 weeks, 35 hours per week)
