School Custodian

The Oxford School is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to play a crucial role in the upkeep and cleanliness of our school building and the maintenance of our beautiful Campus grounds. This position is a shift of 8 hours of work each day from Monday to Friday
- expected hours are 10:30am -6:30pm

As a Custodian, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the pristine condition of our school facilities, both indoors and outdoors. We are looking for individuals with prior maintenance and janitorial experience, but we are also open to those who are eager to learn and excel in this role. Occasionally, some lifting tasks may be required as part of your duties.

This position reports to the Head of School. The Custodian is responsible for routine cleaning and maintenance of the school building.

Custodian Daily

**Responsibilities**:

- Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition
- Sweep, vacuum, wax, and mop the floor
- Performs routine maintenance activities.
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment. Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Manages inventory of cleaning supplies.
- Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
- Cleaning spills
- Empty trash, recycling, and compost
- Clear snow in the winter and tend to grass in summer
- Wash windows, inside and outside
- Perform handy-‘man’ task such as minor repairs and building upkeep.
- Maintain ventilation system and complete minor repairs as needed
- Make sure the establishment is clean and meets all safety requirements
- Wash walls, ceilings, and light fixtures regularly
- Notifies Head of School regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment or snow removal equipment
- Skills to make minor repairs (drywall repair, paint restorations, etc.)
- Ability to work independently
- Understanding of health and safety regulations
- Ability to keep an organized record of cleaning supply inventory
- Ability to perform maintenance checks on the ventilation system
- Problem-solving skills

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Balance attention to detail and time available to complete assigned tasks
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other workers, administrators, supervisors, teaching staff, students and the public.
- Adapt to changing circumstances, plans and schedules to meet unforeseen circumstances.
- Read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sufficient sight and hearing to perform related job duties.
- Able to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Able to lift and carry supplies (up to 18 kg/40 lb).
- Able to climb and work from 3 metre ladders.
- Able to work in a highly active physical environment.
- Able to clean up bodily fluids as per standard procedure.

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications
- Ability to meet screening requirements, including successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check.
- Shift work may be required.
