Landscape Construction Labourer

Job Summary

This position is responsible for completing all assigned field projects within assigned deadlines under the direction of a Lead Hand/Supervisor. Working primarily on commercial landscape construction projects, the labourer is an integral part of the landscape construction team. Assisting in site prep including setting grades with laser levels and string lines, installing base material, cutting and laying pavers according to the site plans/under the direction of the site supervisor (Supervisor or lead hand) and screeding for completion and general site cleanup.

**Responsibilities**:

- Complete jobs using a variety of tools and equipment safely and effectively as trained and required
- Power tools, tampers, cut-off saws
- Mobile equipment: skid steer, excavator.
- Complete all assigned work safely and effectively
- Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order and complete minor maintenance as required
- Participate in the completion of FLRA, Inspections, Checklists and Toolbox Talks as required
- Bring attention to any unreported safety concerns requiring attention/correction
- Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining positive working relationships with customers and coworkers
- Participate in all training and performance reviews required by the Company
- Assist in the loading and unloading of materials
- Pursue ongoing education sponsored by the Company as required

Job Specifications Education
- Post-secondary trades education an asset
- Red Seal (completion or working towards) in Landscaping/Horticulture an asset

Experience
- 1 year of industry experience in progressive roles an asset
- Experience working outdoors year-round an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to work with people in a variety of circumstances and from various backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess a thorough, organized and detail-oriented approach to work
- High level of customer service
- Plan, prioritize and coordinate, multi-task and complete work assignments within prescribed deadlines
- Ability to foster a cooperative working environment

Physical Requirements
- Hear and speak in order to communicate with others
- Frequently lifting 30-80lbs, as required
- Standing, sitting and walking for the majority of the day, sometimes on uneven surfaces or on stairs

Work Environment

The majority of the work is performed outside on jobsites with exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, possible extreme temperatures, noises, construction material fumes and odors.
