**Community Patrol Temporary Part-Time**

Reporting to the Manager of Protective Services, Community Patrol performs field and administrative work relating to the education of the public in relation to municipal regulatory bylaws focusing on, but not limited to, parking regulation and the animal control bylaw.

Reporting to the Manager of Protective Services, The Community Patrol position performs field and administrative work related to the education of Municipal Bylaws, focusing on, but not limited to, parking regulations and the Animal Control Bylaw.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Below is a partial list of Key Responsibilities**

The Community Patrol position, under the direct supervision of the Manager of Protective Services performs regular patrols of public areas and performs regulatory work involving the enforcement of Village Bylaws. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
**Customer Service**
- Provide high levels of excellent customer service while investigating complaints and responding to inquiries from the public, business, and other Village departments.
- Focuses on education when interacting with the community and finds innovative methods of achieving voluntary compliance.

**Bylaw Enforcement Duties**
- Proactively patrols the Village to detect violations of municipal bylaws related to vehicle parking.
- Informs and educates parking bylaw violators of the nature of the bylaw offence, to gain voluntary compliance.
- Issues Warning Notices of Violation, Bylaw Offence Notices, and Municipal Ticket Information.
- Explains and interprets Regulatory Bylaws, regulations, policies and procedures, and conveys information to others clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Maintains administrative files and records.
- Assists Bylaw Enforcement Officers and Animal Control Officers when necessary and as directed.

**GENERAL DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensures compliance to all Village policies, bylaws, agreements, contracts, and external regulations.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position and working in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work both independently and interdependently while exercising sound judgment and initiative. Ability to conduct patrols from a vehicle, bicycle or on foot.
- Provides input on modifications or improvements to policies, procedures and practices to improve the functioning of the Department; and provides input to written work procedures for own area of responsibility as requested.
- Carries out safe work practices and adheres to safety and other work-related regulations; reports unsafe and/or insecure situations that may arise from time to time; and implements emergency procedures as directed.

**QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS**

**Education**:

- Grade 12.

**Experience**:

- 1 year experience dealing with the public in a municipal regulatory capacity.
- Experience in a volunteer position in a community organization or program.

**Licenses and Certificates**
- Clear Canadian criminal record check.
- Able to obtain and maintain RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with clear driver’s abstract.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to provide effective customer service, diffuse hostility in an effective manner while consistently maintaining a professional and diplomatic demeanor.
- Excellent organizational skills, the ability to perform multiple duties simultaneously with deadlines.
- Thorough knowledge of bylaws, related legislation, regulations, Local Government Act, and the Community Charter.
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of discretion and impartiality.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Community Patrol works in a variety of locations including in facilities and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months

**Salary**: $26.67 per hour

Schedule:

- Evening shift
- Weekend availability

- Cumberland, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
