As a Swamper/Rigger you are required to set up machinery and secure it in place, or reeves’ rope through a pulley or a block and tackle. Splice either fiber rope or wire rope, set up hoist, attach to the end of a crane’s hoist to cargo awaiting movement and guide the cargo through narrow spaces or into storage. Take down the block, line or hoist and stow it for later use.

**Responsibilities**:

- Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials
- Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability
- Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools
- Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules
- Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment
- Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques
- Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines
- Align, level, and anchor machinery
- Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools
- Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets
- Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts
- Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps
- Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use

**Desired skills and Experience**:

- Availability to work rotational shifts, including days and nights
- Previous Jack and Slide experience is considered an asset
- Previous Picker and Bed Truck experience is considered an asset
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol clearance
- Solid communication skills
- Ability to navigate work sites, and adapt to daily changes in scopes of work
