We are looking for one Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering student for a 12- or 16-month co-op term starting in May 2023 in Lloydminster. Under the direction of a Foreman/Senior Survey Technologist, the student will be responsible for providing the survey requirements and documentation necessary for the construction, maintenance and location of all ATCO Natural Gas pipelines and facilities.
**Job Requirements**:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Surveying, Geomatics or Civil Engineering diploma or post-secondary program at a recognized Institute of Technology or equivalent.
- Must be a self-motivated individual who is able to work effectively under mínimal supervision
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license
**General Responsibilities**:
- Locate, stake, chain, profile, and set grades as required for the construction and maintenance of company pipelines and associated plant.
- Select and survey, in consultation with Engineering, Construction, Operations and Land, the most suitable pipeline locations to facilitate construction.
- Obtain and/or locate such data as benchmarks, legal survey monuments, registered plans, property lines, foreign underground facilities, etc., necessary to carry out all aspects of surveying.
- Coordinate with other utilities, city departments, municipal representatives, developers, contractors and landowners the proposed alignments and grades of gas pipelines and related facilities.
- Coordinate with Foremen - Distribution, Operators - Distribution and contractors, while providing survey information pertaining to work orders, etc., prior, during and after completion of the facility construction or maintenance work required.
- Examine, locate and arrange for staking of underground utilities and other obstacles or considerations that may affect construction and are not detailed on working plans.
- Interpret technical survey data and do the required mathematical calculations.
- Evaluate survey practices and procedures and be proficient in the use of all equipment pertaining to the efficient completion of survey work.
- Routinely test, adjust and maintain survey equipment and instruments.
- Provide survey related training on complex survey equipment and/or procedures as required.
- Routinely work without direct supervision and to provide guidance and instruction to assisting personnel.
- Profile proposed highways, railways, irrigation canals and river crossings.
- Perform other related duties as required.
