The Wetaskiwin School Division requires a temporary full time Summer Student - Wellness Coach to work within the City and County of Wetaskiwin. The Summer Student - MHCB Wellness Coach will be working as part of a larger team, this position may involve developing and delivering developmentally appropriate, evidence based summer programming, activities and events that meet the objectives of the MHCB initiative. Delivery of programming involves large and small group work in accordance with the AHS Guidelines during the pandemic. Programming will take place in school or community indoor and/or out door settings and focus on increasing knowledge, building skills and fostering abilities that enable others to manage their own mental health and wellness.

This position would provide an opportunity for a student working towards their education in the health or social sciences field (such as health promotion and prevention, social work, nursing, early childhood development, public health, psychology) and who has some knowledge about addiction and mental health services.

Duties include but are not limited to:

- Provides addiction and mental health promotion and prevention to children, youth and families
- Delivery of programming involves large and small group work in schools and community settings
- Assist in accessing mental health and community services
- Provide online programming and/or in person depending on the COVID situation
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with students and families

Preference will be given to incumbents possessing the following qualifications:

- Working towards a related post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences, or relevant courses and experience
- Knowledge of addiction and mental health is preferred
- Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families
- Knowledge of programming for children
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Time management skills and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of the local community and resources available
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, Teachers, parents/guardians
- An ability to work cooperatively as part of an educational team
- Commitment to the Health and Safety Program and training as prescribed by the Board
- Experience using emerging technologies to inform, practice and transform learning via Google Apps and other cloud based apps
- Experience using Google Suite to deliver programming
