Northern Divine Aquafarms Ltd. is one of Canada's first closed-containment, freshwater, recirculating aquaculture systems. We rear Fraser River White Sturgeon for meat and caviar production. Our certified organic caviar is internationally recognized, raised on pristine, recirculated well water with no antibiotics or added hormones. We also raise Coho salmon for the live egg industry, supplying the emerging land-based aquaculture sector with a unique product to grow in farms around the world.
Our Team:
Our team of 10-15 employees cares for over 15,000 fish, taking them from incubating eggs, to juveniles, to spawning adults. With two species on site and 24 hour coverage, the work is diverse, and there are a lot of exciting things to learn. Many of our employees have been with the company long term, and we strive to maintain those positive relationships and help employees develop new skills.
Your Role:
Northern Divine is seeking an Aquaculture Technician to join our team. As a technician you will be responsible for the care of fish in the two recirculation facilities and flow through systems. This includes, but is not limited to, fish feeding, tank cleaning, mortality handling, checking oxygen levels, water quality, checking system functionality, assisting with harvests, responding to power outages and data entry.
General Requirements:
- Reliable transport to semi-remote site
- Heavy lifting
- Comfortable working alone
- An interest in fish, and comfortable handling live fish
- Able to respond to emergencies and communicate clearly (written and verbal)
- Previous experience with fish, pumps, or light machinery is an asset
- Ability to work weekends, and the occasional overnight shift for coverage reasons
Compensation:
Training wage starting at 19.50
After six months of employment, the applicant will be eligible for extended health benefits.
