**Horticultural Technician, Apprentice**
Cobble Design is an award-winning, full-scale landscape design and installation firm, specializing in complex landscape projects for residential and recreational properties along Ontario’s West Coast (Huron County). We are a well-respected company, with a 35-year reputation for designing and installing complex and high-quality landscapes. Our work includes plantings, walkways, driveways, patios, firepits, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, tramlines, water features, fencing, and lighting.
We are looking for a Horticultural Technician, Apprentice to join our incredible crew of landscape professionals.
**Job Summary**
As a Horticultural Technician (Apprentice) you will support our Senior Landscape Consultant and work on all aspects of our landscaping operations. This includes project management, designing and estimating, and installations of landscape projects.
Through a combination of in-school and on-the-job training you will learn all aspects of landscape management. You will spend significant time in the office supporting our Senior Landscape Consultant however you will also spend time on various landscape projects.
In the office, you could assist with project management, following up with suppliers, assisting with estimates, compiling orders and other administrative tasks, project management, and design and estimating duties.
On projects you will be expected to perform a variety of physical tasks installing a variety of landscape projects including drainage systems, pavers, steps, retaining walls, water features, fireplaces, and plantings, amongst others.
The apprenticeship is expected to take 2 to 3 years to complete, ending with you obtaining your Red Seal Horticultural Technician designation. At that time, you can continue supporting our Senior Landscape Consultant or you can take on a senior role as part of our installation crews.
**Requirements**:
- No experience is necessary, however some experience in construction or landscaping would be ideal
- Curious, willing to learn, and open to training
- Organized, disciplined, and diligent
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Exceptional customer relationship skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Able to work efficiently and productively in a team environment
- Self-motivated individual who is passionate about performing high quality work
- Willingness to learn how to operate heavy equipment including skid steer loaders and excavators
- Valid G class driver license, with a clean driving record. A willingness to obtain an DZ or AZ licence is preferred
**Compensation, benefits, and hours**
This is a full-time, seasonal role.
When you are in the office, your hours will normally be 9:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.
When you are working on projects, your shift will start at 7:00 AM and end between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
You may be asked to work the occasional Saturday.
Compensation for this role starts at $20 per hour with 4% vacation pay for someone with no experience. You may earn upwards of $28 per hour and 8% vacation pay, depending on your experience, quality of your work, and your ability to positively interact with clients, co-workers, and suppliers.
We operate from April to October, with some seasons extending into November, depending on the weather. Employees are laid off during the winter.
