Position: Summer Camp Counselor

Position Overview:
**This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and therefore to be eligible, youth must**:

- between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the program
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

As a Summer Camp Counselor for Participants with Intellectual Disabilities, you will play a pivotal role in providing a safe, inclusive, and enriching summer camp experience for individuals with diverse abilities. This position requires a passionate and compassionate individual who is dedicated to supporting campers in developing life skills, fostering independence, and creating lasting memories. Please note that it is mandatory for counsellors to be proficient swimmers as swimming supervision is a key aspect of the role

**Responsibilities**:
1. Supervision and Support:

- Provide direct supervision and support to Participants with intellectual disabilities throughout the camp day.
- Ensure campers' safety and well-being during all camp activities and outings.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation, socialization, and friendship among campers.

2. Activity Planning and Implementation:

- Plan and facilitate engaging and adaptive activities tailored to meet the needs and interests of campers with intellectual disabilities.
- Lead group activities, arts and crafts, games, and sensory-based experiences.
- Ensure that all activities are accessible and enjoyable for campers of varying abilities.

3. Swimming Supervision:

- Supervise campers during swimming sessions, ensuring their safety and adherence to swimming rules.
- Assist campers in developing swimming skills and confidence in the water.
- Implement appropriate water safety protocols and provide support as needed.

4. Personal Care Assistance:

- Provide assistance with personal care tasks, including toileting, dressing, and hygiene, as needed.
- Respectfully support campers in maintaining their personal independence and dignity.

Qualifications:

- Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
**- **Lifeguarding License an asset
- Ability to swim and supervise swimming activities is mandatory.

**End Date**: August 23 possibly August 30
