**The Corporation of the County of Huron Social and Property Services Department is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Building Custodian**

The Building Custodian is responsible for maintaining apartment buildings and County municipal buildings to a high level of maintenance, care and cleanliness through the practice of generally accepted cleaning methods, the performance of minor repair and maintenance tasks, including some ground maintenance. The preparation and cleaning of multi-residential and single-family vacant units.

**Role and Responsibilities**:

- Janitorial duties including cleaning of all common areas, changing light bulbs, garbage and recycling removal.
- Interact with tenants and the public in performing duties and providing customer service.
- Applies approved operating policies, procedures and legislation and supplements the judgment and initiative of the Operations Supervisor.
- Stripping and waxing of floor surfaces.
- Preparation and cleaning of vacant units in apartment buildings and single-family residences.
- Minor maintenance, plumbing and painting repairs.
- Visual inspection, monitoring and minor maintenance of life safety systems.
- Maintain and promote the confidentiality of tenant information and other data.
- Assisting contractors and other staff as required.
- Acts as first contact and liaison with fire department, ambulance and police during emergencies, as outlined under the Fire Safety Plan. Reports tenant and health and safety issues to Supervisor. Call 911 when appropriate.
- Inventory control and record keeping.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma.
- Two (2) years’ experience working in a multi-unit residential environment.
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.

**Preferred Skills**:

- Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal tactfully with tenants and members of the public.
- Good knowledge of cleaning procedures, and general maintenance repairs.
- Must be highly motivated, working well alone and with others.
- Minor grounds keeping and experience in the use of various tools and equipment.
- Good knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and life safety building systems would be an asset.
- Valid First Aid and WHMIS certificates, or ability to obtain.
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

**Location/Contract Term**:
This position is located in Clinton, Ontario and is approximately a 6 month contract.

**Competitive Compensation**:

- 2024 non-union grade 4, $26.65 - $31.17.
