This position falls within a directorate that provides common services to two funding agencies: the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

**What you will do**:
Maintains and secures the Councils' corporate relational databases. This position is primarily responsible for the delivery of database administration services which includes investigating, proposing, and implementing new solutions in response to new or changing business requirements, capacity planning, software installation and maintenance, configuration of database management platforms, security, backup and recovery, performance monitoring, performance tuning, database design and the extraction, transformation and loading of data.

**What you need to succeed**:
**Education**:

- Graduated with a university degree or community college diploma in computer sciences or other related field or a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards

**Experience**:

- Experience in using complex relational databases
- Experience in configuring relational database management systems
- Experience in database design
- Experience in troubleshooting production problems in conjunction with other stakeholders
- Experience in ensuring the security of relational database management systems
- Experience in creating and maintaining backup and recovery processes is considered
- Experience in implementing performance monitoring processes and resolving database related performance problems
- Experience in the extraction, transformation and loading of data across systems an asset
- Experience in developing database objects and providing guidance to development teams an asset
- Experience in installing and maintaining software that pertains to relational database management systems an asset.

**Knowledge**:

- Strong knowledge of relational database management systems such as SQL Server, Sybase and Oracle
- Strong knowledge of SQL Data Definition Language and Data Manipulation Language
- Strong knowledge of SQL performance tuning techniques
- Strong knowledge of logical and physical data modeling principles and methodologies an asset
- Knowledge of security and privacy procedures for classified data an asset
- Knowledge of current information technology trends an asset
- Knowledge of capacity planning strategies and principles an asset
- Knowledge of computer science theories, engineering methods and principles in order to design, develop, test, and implement solutions utilizing information technology an asset.
