Ruth and Naomi’s Mission is a Christian faith-based organization with a vision and commitment to see the lives of people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and struggling with addiction transformed by the love of God. To assist in this work, we are currently hiring cooks.
**Cook**:
The Cook position is responsible for producing nutritional and tasty meals for residents and clients of Ruth and Naomi’s Mission at our Pathways/Revive Shelter. The work environment is a busy, noisy area with access to a secured common area as well as to the street to allow for deliveries and drop offs.
**Core Duties Include**:
- Prepare assigned food items by following established menus, recipes, and quantity quotas, determining ingredients and quantities required and assembling ingredients and equipment required for cooking.
- Develop and plan healthy and desirable meals for each day
- Cooks and seasons assigned food such as soups, sauces, salads, starches, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, and desserts by methods/procedures such as roasting, frying, grilling steaming, poaching boiling, baking.
- Maintains established food rotations in storage, to minimize spoilage and waste.
- Create a positive environment for volunteers and provide support and training as needed
- Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen to ensure that all related standards are met or exceeded
- Coordinate food purchases with the Kitchen Manager.
**Education / Work Experience / Skills**:
- Current FoodSafe designation
- Station Chef or equivalent experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong culinary skills
- Strong organizational skills
