**Health and Safety Training Specialist - Onsite**

**Location: Pinawa, Manitoba**

**Schedule: Four (4) - 10 hour days - Monday to Thursday**

**Job Summary**

The Health and Safety Training Specialist promotes and enhances true Safety Culture at Whiteshell (WL). The WL Health & Safety Services (HSS) Branch has the lead responsibility for delivering an effective Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) program at the WL Site. The principal customers of HSS are all WL Divisions (employees and line managers) in the WL Closure Project. Other customers and stakeholders include Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

The Health and Safety Training Specialist is responsible for providing diversified support by delivering, developing, maintaining, and evaluating our current training material of Occupational Health and Safety nature and activities within the Canadian Nuclear Laboratory (CNL) organization. This role will participate in training development activities with regards to Occupational Health and Safety content.

The Health and Safety Training Specialist performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, standards, policies and procedures (e.g., utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). The Health and Safety Training Specialist notifies their manager or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.

**Qualifications**

**Education**
- University degree or College diploma in, Training Development and/or Education, or relevant technical field is preferred, plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience with at least one (1) of those years in a direct training role either in facilitating and/or developing.
- Professional designation or certification in training (CTDP, CTP, CTT+, etc.) is considered an asset.

**Experience**
- Two (2) or more years of relevant safety experience preferably in construction/demolition environments involving heavy equipment.
- General industrial hygiene knowledge in areas such as Asbestos, Silica, hazardous chemicals/WHMIS, noise, heat-stress, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C).
- Experience with development and facilitation of both in-person and remote learning.
- Experience with the content development of training materials of multiple mediums such as PowerPoints, Training Manuals, Quick Reference Guides, etc.
- Proven proficiency with Microsoft tools such as PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.

**Abilities and Skills**

**The incumbent should have**:

- Experience in facilitation techniques, coaching, and training delivery.
- Understands injury statistics and performance metrics - can develop and interpret them.
- Proven technical document writing skills i.e.: procedures, investigations, reports.
- Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain flow of work and accuracy of records.
- Exceptionally organized and detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines - able to prioritize and manage work time effectively.
- Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work; conscientious about accuracy.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative. Able to improvise and to deal adequately with rapidly changing conditions.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills - written and oral - and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Ability to present recommendations, complete regulatory reporting and technical writing in a clear and effective manner.
- Effectively handle and diffuse difficult situations real time with internal and external clients.
- Understand Human Performance principles: Not just what an employee did but also why they did it (learned experience/beliefs).
- Highly motivated and able to work with mínimal supervision.
- Must be punctual and dependable.
- Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs.
