- **NOTE: _Salary will be determined on a pro-rated and incremental scale, which will increase over a 2.5-3 year period to align with the Apprentice’s progression in the Locksmith Apprentice program._ By completion of program requirements, the incumbent will be at the wage of CUPE 116 Schedule C, PG 14 (Trades 2 - Access Control Tech Locksmith): 6,774.00- 7,008.00 - 7,226.00 CAD Monthly.

Job Description Summary

Apprentice locksmiths will gain skills in locksmith work on door closures, panic hardware, and related fittings as it pertains to the installation, maintenance and repair of locks, keys lock cylinders for the master key system and maintains appropriate records.

The apprentice locksmith is expected to work on the installation, repair and replacement of door hardware, locks, key cutting, electric hardware, automatic door openers, and door hardware power supplies across the University.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Head, Sub-Head or designated journeyperson Locksmith; Managed by Access Manager.

Work Performed

Requests and obtains material and equipment required for the work assigned.
Keys lock cylinders for the master key system.
Repairs locks and closures in the shop and elsewhere on campus.
Assists in setting up key schedules and maintains appropriate records.
Assists in the selection of hardware and keying for new buildings.
Cuts keys as required.
Installs and maintains locks, door closures, panic hardware and related fittings.
As required, will make estimates and produce inspection reports.
Ensures that the workplace is safe and follows safe work practices.
Installs and maintains 12/24 volt door operating equipment.
Communicates with customers as required to ensure the efficient delivery of service.
Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Determines the sequence of work, the work methods and equipment to be employed and how best to complete the work based on technical knowledge of the trade and related departmental guidelines and policies; inappropriate decisions may result in minor service delays and/or costs.

Works under general supervision and from oral and written instructions and according to approved procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduation. Valid or Eligible for Security Worker License, Valid BC Drivers Licence. Minimum of two years experience in construction and/or trades setting, or equivalent experience. Ability to work in a team environment. Practical experience with hand and power tools.
