**Description**:
The Department of Medical Imaging currently consists of 30 radiologists, including 8 diagnostic & interventional neuroradiologists and has a strong history and role in the development and evolution of the performance of neurointerventional (neurovascular; NV) procedures at St. Michael’s Hospital. The NV procedures are currently performed by 1 interventional neuroradiologist and 2 neurosurgeons. Currently, the NV service is supported by a dedicated Phillips biplane flat panel neuroradiology suite. There is an additional Siemens Artis Icono presently being installed in the operating room area. Non-invasive NV imaging is supported by the vascular Doppler lab, three multi-slice CT scanners, and four MRI scanners (two 1.5T and two 3T). The recent addition of a portable ultra-low field (0.064mT) head MRI scanner is allowing us to evaluate, innovate and define the early clinical implementation of this technology in Canada. SMH is a high-volume referral center for the endovascular management of complex neurovascular conditions, including acute large vessel ischemic stroke, and performs the full gamut of NV procedures.
