Community Services Coordinator

This position exists to provide spiritual comfort, physical assistance and general support for community members in need without discrimination with the resources we have available.
**HOURS**:
- Casual on call - zero to 40 hours per week as needed to cover sick time and vacation
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Conduct initial intake assessments and determine best course of action for immediate and long term needs/supports. This will include direct contact/support with homeless individuals.
- Administer emergency relief from available resources.
- Provide basic counseling, budgeting advice and emotional support.
- Provide spiritual guidance, using every opportunity to pray with individuals and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate recording of all information on computers system.
- Conduct general phone, filing and office duties.
- Organize and escorting children to/from July summer camp.
- Organize and complete client Income Tax returns.
- Organize, provide direction and implement Christmas programs.
- Recruit and secure sufficient volunteers to successfully run seasonal programs and fundraisers.
- Network and give referrals with/to other Salvation Army Ministries, government and social services providers in the community to foster good relationships that will benefit clients.
- Organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Community Services areas and storage areas.
- Adhere to and promote the mission and goals of The Salvation Army.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:
- Completed High School
- Have a minimum of six month specialized courses in the field of social or human services or equivalent experience
- Valid driver’s license
**Experience**:
- One (1) year prior related experience including working with persons with multi-barriers
- Proven active and compassionate listening skills
- Proven problem solving and conflict management training/skills
- Working with children and youth
**Required Skills/Knowledge**:
- Proven proficient use of internet based software, Microsoft Office, online search engines, etc.
- Able to repetitively lift/move up to 30 lb. boxes of canned food and donated goods
**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:
- Previous experience in completing Income Tax returns.
- Reside in the Duncan area
- Familiarity with other local agencies working with people in crisis
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening from local RCMP/Police
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
