**Description**:
Located out of our Heartland Petrochemical Complex, the individual in the Automation Engineering Student will report to Manager, Controls & Automation - Heartland. As a key member of the Heartland team, the Automation Engineering Student will perform automation tasks while gaining valuable experience.

**Key Activities and Responsibilities**:

- Work independently and as part of a team to complete control and automation engineering design deliverables for a variety of projects
- Prepare Control and Automation deliverables, including but not limited to:

- Instrumentation and Control Design Criteria
- Communication design criteria (wireless networks, fiber optic networks)
- Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Procurement packages for instrumentation and plant control system equipment (specifications, technical bid evaluation, vendor data review)
- Engineering Lists (Instrument Index, I/O Lists, Cable Schedules, material take-offs)
- Design Deliverables (Interconnection diagrams, Loop Drawings, Layout drawings, Installation drawings, Control Panel Layouts, Control System Architecture)
- Functional Descriptions and Control Philosophy
- Program using PLC and/or DCS as per project requirements
- Develop factory acceptance test and software acceptance test checking procedures
- Work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment to deliver the best solution
- Assist our senior engineers and designers with their responsibilities including but not limited to checking engineering deliverables, attending design reviews, quality reviews and participating in site inspections and walkdowns
- Education, Skills and Experience:

- Registered at an engineering school. Preference given to U of A and U of C students
- Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions
- Adapts and embraces change

**Hours**:
9*80 work schedule
8 month term (May - December 2024)
