The primary responsibility of the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch is deliver a provincial inventory and forest analysis program that provides information essential for allowable annual cut (AACs) decisions and for informed management of a wide range of resource issues resulting from catastrophic events (e.g., wildfires and insects); changes to the timber harvesting land base; new forest inventory information; changes to forest and range tenures and legislation; wildlife habitat practices; and other new or evolving forest practices (e.g., old growth).

This position leads the Inventory Analysis and Reporting Team in the development of innovative forest information strategies and products, and the provision of forest information in support of critical government resource/forestry management initiatives. The role of the Inventory Analysis and Reporting team Lead is to anticipates forestry issues and capitalizes on data opportunities to enhance or support the Ministry’s strategic response, as well as, reporting from ongoing forest inventory operations. Responsibilitiies include: developing strategic and operational plans and annual team objectives; establishing provincial standards and processes and; providing technical oversight to the ongoing operations encompassing data integrity, currency, warehousing, security, analysis and reporting. The position also manages the branch’s internal and external reporting regime, which provides high-quality data and advice for accurate forest inventory and sound timber supply analysis, as well as, for business planning, issues management and policy development. As an authoritative provincial expert in forest inventory data, the incumbent identifies opportunities to advance forest inventory knowledge and provides expertise to the Chief Forester, industry, first nations and the public.

**Job Requirements**:

- Bachelors of Sciences or higher with an emphasis on forest mensuration, sampling and statistics, and at least five years of experience in forest inventory or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registration or eligible for registration, as a professional forester with the Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
- Expert knowledge of forest mensuration and sampling, forest inventory projection models, and forest biomass and carbon modelling.
- Sound knowledge of BC’s Vegetation Resources Inventory (VRI), Canada’s National Forest Inventory (NFI), and other inventory designs.
- Demonstrated experience writing procedures, analysing data, and processing large data files.
- Sound knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, maintaining and enhancing yield prediction models.
- Current experience leading professional staff or work teams in resource management, hiring, managing performance, team building, and developing and managing annual budgets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain and present strategic ideas, initiatives and practices to executive, director, manager, staff and clients and deliver presentations.
- Strong influence, mediation and negotiation abilities.
- Strong team-building skills and experience in collaborative projects serving other MOF branches and non ministry agencies.
- Demonstrated competence processing and analyzing data using SAS and R, ArcGIS and databases (MS Access and Oracle).
