Grounds Superintendent

**Responsibilities**:
The full-time Grounds Superintendent will supervise and delegate work activities among grounds staff and promote a high standard work ethic. Number of employees supervised will be determined upon hiring. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Supervise cemetery grounds operations
- Assigns personnel to jobs and supervises employee performance
- Documents employee performance, disciplinary issues and provide appropriate coaching
- Instructs all grounds personnel in cemetery procedures and policies
- Assist in training new hires and aid in hiring process
- Maintain a safe working environment through education and training
- Completes various inspection, inventory, maintenance, and Health and Safety reports and logs
- Makes recommendations to supervisors for consideration in capital and operating budgets
- Supervises care of cemetery, interment sites, vaults, and memorial installations
- Monitors and maintains safety of grave setup and inspects for accuracy of location and proper depth and container
- Maintains accurate records of equipment, maintenance and repairs
- Reviews and resolves problems and complaints pertaining to grounds personnel
- Operates all grounds equipment
- Daily review of security of buildings, equipment, and supplies
- Provides manager with productivity updates
- Evaluates the need for equipment replacement and repairs and submits recommendations
- Ensures high standards are met in daily operations
- Assist in winter grounds maintenance
- Promotes a positive and professional image
- Performs other duties as requested by manager

**Qualifications, Skills and Abilities**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience (required)
- Experience with ground maintenance, horticulture, landscaping and/or cemetery environment (required)
- Experience in a supervisory position (required)
- Experience directing and mentoring staff and working with crews to foster a positive working environment (required)
- A valid driver’s license (required)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required)
- Self-directed with the advanced ability to organize, multitask, meet deadlines and prioritize duties (required)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (required)
- Excellent attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy (required)
- Ability to perform heavy, physical demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions (required)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations related to cemeteries (required)
- Seminar/Workshop courses in supervision and personnel management, lawn maintenance and equipment management (Asset)
- Ontario Pesticide Training and Certification (Asset)
- Chainsaw, small engines or welding Certification (Asset)
- Working knowledge of Stone Orchard Software (Asset)

** Preference will be given to applicants with cemetery experience**

**Employment & Benefits**:

- Full time hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm
- Alternating Saturdays Required from 8:00am to 1:00pm
- Overtime work as needed

**Salary**: $55,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
