The Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC) has an exceptional opportunity available for a **temporary (two year-term), fulltime Laboratory Research Assistant** to join Dr. Dong’s research team.

The Laboratory Research Assistant will work under the supervision of Dr. Xuesen Dong within a world-class multi-disciplinary team. Our research focuses on the mechanisms of therapy-resistant prostate cancers and the development of therapeutics to manage the disease.

**Position Summary**

The Laboratory Research Assistant provides technical support to the scientific research team, planning and conducting research experiments, evaluating test results, creating customized reports and research records. Significant supervisory/project management duties frequently required at more senior levels.

**Responsibilities**
- plans and conducts tests, experiments, takes samples and evaluates results.
- selects, develops, and evaluates research methods.
- collects raw data, creates and maintains databases, and generates research related reports.
- operates broad scope of laboratory equipment and ensures laboratory equipment is kept in clean, in working order, performing basic maintenance as required.
- monitors inventory of lab supplies and ensures proper storage of materials and supplies.
- supervises and trains undergraduate students and junior graduate students
- works according to OH&S policies, WSIB and QA standards. Takes all necessary safety training and necessary precautions when handling potentially hazardous materials, chemicals, biological agents or working with radiation.
- carry out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of this position.

**Qualifications**
- Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Cell Biology
- Minimum of two years relevant laboratory experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, histology, immunology, or pathology environment.
- Minimum of two years experience working with basic molecular and cellular techniques such as cell culture, Western blotting, Realtime qPCR, nucleic acid extraction and purification et al
- demonstrated knowledge of research laboratory best practices and techniques
- willing and able to complete all required safety training, both at point of hire and on an ongoing basis.
- Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and continually assess priorities
- willing and able to work occasional shift work as required
- ability to work effectively and efficiently both in a team environment and independently.
- computer literate

**Salary**

Starting salary range for this position is $45,904 - $51,293 per annum. Salary placement is dependent upon experience.
