**About this role**:
**Responsibilities (What you will do)**:

- Develop and implement comprehensive corporate communications strategies to effectively promote the City's initiatives, programs, and services.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and coordinate responses to ensure accurate and timely information dissemination.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of press releases, media advisories, newsletters, and other communication materials.
- Manage the City's digital communications platforms, including website content, social media channels, and mass communications to residents.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging across all communication channels.
- Lead crisis communications efforts, providing strategic guidance and support during emergencies or sensitive situations.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage, public sentiment, and engagement metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and identify areas for improvement.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key interest holders, including elected officials, community organizations, and partner agencies.
- Supervise communications staff, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Be accountable for brand management, promotion, and protection.
- Manage strategic channels and develop collateral, aligned to strategic priorities, compliant with all relevant City policies, and consistent with the City’s visual identity/brand guidelines.
- Provide strategic communications advice to senior management on policy and program matters.
- Advise the senior leadership team on communication strategies related to municipal initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications (What you bring)**:

- Fluency in both English and French (written and verbal) is required (Federal language rating / equivalency of CCC required; EEE preferred).
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- 6-8 years of progressive experience in a governmental (or government-adjacent) communications role, with demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic communication plans.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages tailored to diverse audiences.
- Experience leading and implementing a municipal brand refresh or rebranding exercise is a definite asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external interest holders.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of municipal government processes and issues is an asset
- Working knowledge of web management best practices (and, ideally, the iCreate and EngagementHQ platforms), social media management tools (HootSuite), and channel management (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X) wise practices, and familiarity with Canva and other graphic design tools are all definite assets.
