**About us**

The University of Victoria Psychology Clinic is a the graduate training clinic for the Clinical Psychology Graduate Program. The Psychology Clinic in the Department of Psychology, University of Victoria, is an outpatient mental health training facility for clinical psychology graduate students. The Psychology Clinic provides professional psychological services to the community, including assessments and therapeutic interventions for children, adults, couples and families.

Practicum Supervisor Qualifications:

- Registration with the College of Psychologists of BC - required.
- Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology - required
- Competency in psychoeducational assessments for children/adolescents (ages 6+) and/or adults - one or both required
- Supervision experience - desired.

Practicum Supervisor Job Description:
The practicum supervisor’s primary role is the provision of direct clinical supervision of assessments for our PhD students in their psychoeducational assessment practicum. The practicum supervisor, who works alongside the Head practicum supervisor, will have mínimal administrative duties.

Responsibilities include:

- supervision of assessments
- attendance of the weekly supervision meetings (individual if needed and group)
- contributing to the written evaluations for students at the end of the practicum in collaboration with the other supervisor(s)
- participating in the evaluation meetings with students and supervisors.

Time Commitment:
The Practicum Supervisor will be at the clinic from approximately 9-4pm on the dedicated practicum day (excluding vacation time and clinic closure days). This day is currently Monday. This time is to be used for a variety of supervision tasks, including direct observation of assessments, supervision meetings, indirect supervision duties (e.g., reading reports, writing student evaluations), etc. They are not expected to be on campus on other days of the week, although there is typically ½ day of additional indirect supervision duties/week. In some cases, this position may be shared between two supervisors each who will be at the clinic for ½ of the dedicated practicum day. This practicum runs throughout the year and in the summer.

The practicum supervisor will oversee an equal number of assessments as the Head Practicum supervisor. (Note: this statement assumes both supervisors are making an equal time commitment to the practicum. If the position is being split between two psychologists, then they will oversee half the number of assessments).

Stipend: $25,166.45 per year/$2097.20 per month

Supervision Expectations:

- Turn around time for report feedback to students: For all assessments, the supervisor must have the report feedback to the student within 7-10 calendar days.
- Turn around time for assessments: For all assessments, the goal is to complete assessments within a 6 to 7 week timeframe.
- Supervision for interviews and feedback: Supervisors should be present at all initial assessment interviews and feedback sessions.
- Guidelines for first assessment: All students doing their first assessment will be observed live at the clinic through the digital viewing/recording system (VALT) for at least part of this assessment. This in-person observation allows supervisors to provide immediate support and/or feedback when needed to optimize the assessment’s validity and the student’s learning experience. Whether or not the supervisor observes all or part of this assessment is at the discretion of the supervisor and should be based on both the student’s assessment abilities and the complexity of the referral. In addition, all assessments should be recorded through VALT and will be reviewed at supervisors’ discretion and as necessary. All practicum students should develop a regular habit of reviewing their own videos.
- Supervision guidelines for 2+ assessments: Whether or not the supervisor observes a student’s assessment after their first assessment is at the discretion of the supervisor and should be based on both the student’s assessment abilities and the complexity of the referral. All assessments should be recorded and reviewed as necessary.
- Didactic content: Both during individual supervision session and during the weekly group supervision sessions, supervisors will provide didactic content to students (e.g., how to do intakes, specific topics related to learning disabilities, working with children in care, etc.).
- Supervision Notes: As required by the CPBC code of conduct, each supervisor is expected to keep supervision notes for each student they supervise that follows the requirements both for content and length of time kept (see code of conduct 13.8, 13.9). These supervision notes are the responsibility/ownership of the supervisor, including the storage and management of these notes.
