Infection Control Practitioner

**Job Description**:
The Interprofessional Practice Department ensures all regulated health care providers are prepared to deliver high quality patient centred care by leading Interprofessional orientation monthly to all new staff members and ensuring existing staff are current in training and skills in order to provide safe care. In addition, the Interprofessional Practice Department oversees all students (excluding medical and midwifery students) ensuring students are learning in an environment focused on successful development and meeting their outlined academic curriculum. The team has a professional practice leader (PPL) model for all allied health disciplines. Each discipline has their own PPL with dedicated time to enhance their communities of practice, represent their respective disciplines at committees, create policies & procedures and lead corporate level initiatives. This model promotes and enhances the interprofessional team. The Interprofessional Practice Department consists of Regulated Health Care Professionals including: Nursing (general class and extended class), Speech and Language Pathology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Respiratory Therapy, and Physiotherapy; all of which are focused on driving evidence informed best practice for high quality patient and family centred care.
As the Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) you will be responsible to act as a facilitator to reduce the risk of infection and minimize infection transmission within the facility. Provide ongoing expertise, consultation, surveillance, education, research and evaluation of infection prevention and control processes and procedures to departments and programs. Act as an excellent resource in infection prevention and control and health promotion, actively collaborates with frontline staff, managers, ancillary support staff, volunteers, medical staff, and external partners.
- Four year Undergraduate degree specific to Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) Mandatory
- About one year of experience currently performing activities that are client entered, while incorporating the principles of infection prevention
- Minimum five years’ experience related to the healthcare industry with familiar patient care services
- Minimum two years’ experience in Infection Prevention and Control
- Experience performing regular self-evaluations to identify strengths and needs for professional development
- Knowledge of epidemiologic principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases with the ability to integrate this knowledge into clinical practice
- Knowledge and ability to utilize education principles in adult teaching
- Advanced computer skills and ability to integrate into clinical practice
- Knowledge and ability to utilize, the principles of quality improvement
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively participate in Infection Prevention and Control initiatives
