The Oil Museum of Canada, National Historic Site, tells the story of Lambton County’s important contributions to the development of the world’s oil industry. The museum preserves the site of the first commercial oil well in North America dug by James Miller Williams in 1858. Our purpose is the preservation, enhancement and presentation of oil heritage, its artifacts, culture and the history of the County of Lambton and its surroundings. Position Overview
The Collections Student will play a vital role in our comprehensive inventory project of the Oil Museum of Canada's artifact collection. Under the direction of the Curator/Supervisor the student will assist the Museum Collections Coordinator to develop our collections documentation records through basic inventory and digitization of our unique oil heritage artifacts. The Collections Student will also play a role on making our collection more digitally accessible by creating 3D images of a select number of objects.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Systematically handling each artifact in the collections storage area and identifying its accession number.
2. Assist with a physical inventory of collection storage area and galleries
3. Input basic inventory information into PastPerfect based on paper catalogue cards
4. Assist with photographing and digitization of objects and link images into PastPerfect database
5. Pull any artifacts that do not have accurate records from the collections storage area for further analysis by museum staff.
6. Ensure objects are handled and stored to museum best practice standards
7. Photograph selected artifacts for 3D images, requires hundreds of photos to create a 3D image
8. Researching and writing content for museum newsletter
9. Creating content for social media calendar to be used throughout the year

**Qualifications**:

- be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada.

**Note**: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
- be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- have finished the school term at the start of employment.
- meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply
- be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
- not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW.
- have been a full-time student (as defined by his or her educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job.
- intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
