Detailed Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Health Services, provides such duties as clinical supervision, administrative functions, clinical education, program development and direct clinical services to patients and families. This position proactively promotes quality clinical Social Work and Interdisciplinary Practice throughout the Health Service area. Responsibilities:

- Provides clinical supervision to Social Work staff and initiates probationary and annual performance evaluations in consultation with Program Managers. Assists in addressing performance issues in collaboration with the Program Manager and Human Resources consultant.
- Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities consistent with hospital practice and by methods such as evaluating social work practice, conducting audits and initiating corrective action. Recommends changes to selected policies, procedures and protocols and provides feedback to Manager/s.
- Ensures that job descriptions are accurate and current in collaboration with Program Managers.
- Approves leaves in collaboration with Program Managers and arranges staffing to accommodate absences and workload needs.
- Ensures the completion of workload measurement tools and submission of accurate timesheets to the payroll clerk.
- Monitors practice trends and identifies changing patient, resident care needs and develops proposals/programs/initiatives as needed based on current research.
- Collaborates with Program Managers in the recruitment and selection of Social Workers.
- Monitors caseloads, staff assignments and workload measurement statistics and modifies as needed in collaboration with the Manager.
- Develops, implements and evaluates education programs, orientation and professional development programs to Social Workers and hospital staff in order to inform staff of current programs, best practices approaches and psychosocial issues as required.
- Maintains a link and good working relationship with affiliated Schools of Social Work and co-ordinates the placement and supervision of Social Work students annually.
- Assists the Manager with determining the optimal use of budgetary resources by methods such as assisting the Manager to monitor financial statements and workload indicators against the operations and provides input and recommendations as requested.
- Participates on designated hospital, local and regional and professional committees and task groups, representing the social work department and contributes to improvement of patient/resident care outcomes.
- Co-ordinates and delivers Critical Incident Stress Debriefing services as needed to WR/SS health services staff in consultation with Program Managers, and, if necessary, with the Workers Compensation Board of B.C.
- Promotes the role of research; utilizes opportunities to initiate research studies; integrates research findings into interdisciplinary practice through teaching and consultation as feasible.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with appropriate community health agencies and support organizations.
- Performs clinical social work duties for hospital patients and their families on designated unit/s.
- Participates in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
