**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Victim Service Worker provides support services, practical assistance, information and referrals to clients who have been victim of crime.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
The Victim Service Worker will have:

- Diploma in a related human/social service field
- Two (2) years recent related experience including one year supervisory or administrative experience.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE**:
The Victim Service Worker will have:

- Demonstrated ability working well in extreme crisis and extremely traumatic situations
- Demonstrated ability working with victims of crime
- Working knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Good public presentation skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding and competence in working with diverse cultures, particularly aboriginal people
- Well organized and self-motivated
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- High degree and awareness of ethical and professional conduct
- Non-judgmental and culturally aware and sensitive
- Good boundaries and self-care practices.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Victim Service Worker will:

- Provide emotional support to victims of crime and make appropriate referrals to community resources for counselling and other assistance.
- Provide witness service including case specific assistance and general court orientation, and liaisons with Crown Counsel.
- Attend at crisis incidents at the request of a police officer
- Provide transportation and/or accompaniment to appointments or court
- Accompany police to assist with death or accident notification
- Provide practical assistance such a s crime scene clean up or child care during interviews
- Provide public education programs regarding criminal victimization and victim services
- Ensure that the Program standards are adhered to in the delivery of service
- Adhere to the philosophies, policies, procedures and Code of Ethics of the Society
- Conduct fundraising for the Program, maintaining accounts and records of all raised funds
- Account to Staff Sergeant or delegate at RCMP detachment for direct supervision
- Ensure the community is kept aware of the Program and encouraged to access services to their fullest potential
- Liaise with relevant medical, social service and criminal justice agencies to ensure co-ordination, co-operation and minimization of duplication of services. This includes making and receiving referrals and liaisons with community agencies as required by each client’s case where indicated, participation in co-ordinating mechanisms and maintaining regular communication with relevant services
- Represent the society positively and professionally in the community and in provincial liaison activities
- Any other related duties as assigned by the Department Manager or Staff Sergeant.

**HOURS OF WORK**:30 hours per week, flexible to meet program needs

15hrs On Call, 15hrs in Office

**RATE OF PAY**:$26.74 per hour, as per the collective agreement
