Full-time Park Patroller

Job description

Our On Call Park Workers are the support team during peak season at the Buntzen Lake Public Use Management Area. They are excellent at communicating area rules and regulations and reducing conflict with the public. They perform maintenance tasks throughout the park including basic trail maintenance, landscaping, cleaning duties and garbage collection.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrolling the picnic area, beach, and trails to ensure the safety of the public
- Communicating the area rules and regulations to the public to gain compliance
- Communicating closely with aquatic safety patrol and lifeguards to ensure water safety
- Picking up litter and debris throughout the picnic area and trails
- Cleaning washrooms, picnic tables, garbage bins, and performing other maintenance tasks

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
- Strong verbal skills and ability to maintain a friendly demeanor during public interactions
- Mature, professional attitude and ability to take instructions
- Will work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Self-motivated and able to stay on task when not directly supervised
- Good physical fitness; can walk or stand for prolonged periods of time and lift heavy objects
- Available to work 8-hour shifts between 7am - 10pm, and work over-time in emergency situations
- Capable of swimming to safety in unlikely event of water immersion
- Valid class 5 or 7 BC driver’s license with clean drivers abstract
- WHMIS qualification is required if hired
- Steel toed boots are required if hired

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WHO ARE / WERE...
- Experienced in customer service/working with the public
- Qualified or experienced in first aid/emergency response
- Experienced in landscaping and/or vegetation maintenance
- Experienced in rule communication, conflict resolution, or violence prevention

**Salary**: $18.50 per hour
