The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent part-time Gallery Attendant in the Arts & Culture division. This position will work 0-24 hours per week.

Job description

The Gallery Attendant is responsible for ensuring a pleasant visitor experience including greeting visitors, receiving and responding to customer inquiries, increasing access to gallery interpretation, and processing gift shop sales.

Essential responsibilities

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies

Inform customers of upcoming activities and art related information

Responsible for artifact security

Ensure visitor safety by knowing the facilities' emergency response policies and procedures

Lead education programs, bus tours and other paid programming

Assist with planning and implementing special events, and education and public programming

Assist with collections management, exhibit research and design, and artifact care

Processing gift shop sales

Work a POS and debit machine and create the daily reports generated

Assist with care and maintenance of the facilities

Perform clerical functions

Essential qualifications

Some secondary school education, preferably post-secondary education in visual or fine arts

Because of the responsibilities, applicants must be 16 years of age or older

Experience working in an art gallery environment preferred

Experience with planning and implementing special events, and education and public programming

Experience with collections management, exhibit research and design, and artifact care

Experience with general clerical duties

Experience with handling cash and POS (point of sale) machine

Excellent customer service skills

Certifications, memberships, licenses

Standard First Aid/CPR

Work environment/hours of work

This position works indoors

This position may work weekday, afternoon, evening and weekend hours
