This position offers a unique opportunity to lead and mentor a dedicated team while contributing to significant capital projects within the Ministry of Natural Resources. You'll be at the forefront of natural resource management, ensuring the successful implementation of innovative projects that support our environmental and operational goals.

Located in Thunder Bay, the Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research (CNFER) is a key section of MNRF's Science and Research Branch. Established in 1990, CNFER focuses on the effects of forestry practices on boreal ecosystems. Our research programs cover stand ecology, boreal silviculture, aquatic effects, mammal ecology, human dimensions of resource development, and ecosystem management.

**Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities**

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement its business goals. It will be your responsibility to inspire and motivate your team to deliver their best performance and align the team's daily actions with the strategic vision of the ministry. You will contribute to the achievement of team goals by:

- **_ Managing a science team:_**_ Lead and mentor a team of 11 to 15 science technicians and co-op students. Oversee recruitment, training, performance management, and ensure adherence to workplace policies and safety standards._
- **_ Overseeing business services:_**_ Manage and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure that projects and services meet policy, legislative, and environmental standards._
- **_ Informing resource management policies and strategies:_**_ Support the development of research priorities and collaborate with other sections and branches to develop resource management policies and strategies._
- **_ Forging partnerships:_**_ Develop and manage agreements with external partners, negotiate with stakeholders, and act as the primary liaison between the unit and external parties._
- **_ Providing operational oversight:_**_ Direct the execution of science operations and capital development projects to align with the ministry's strategic priorities._
- **_ Supporting unit management:_**_ Assist the Science Coordinator in managing the Unit and act as the building lead on behalf of the Centre._
