Oakville, Canada International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793 (IUOE Local 793) Full time

**Job Profile**:
The successful applicant will be responsible and accountable for carrying out a wide range of general maintenance tasks for the various buildings and grounds of IUOE Local 793, OETIO, and OEBAC as needed including servicing and repair activities to maintain the buildings, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and surrounding grounds in proper conditions. This position works under the immediate guidance of the Maintenance Technician and the overarching direction of the Assistant Business Manager.

**Responsibilities / Duties**:
1. To help maintain the various buildings of the IUOE Local 793, OETIO, and OEBAC facilities by:

- Flagging to the Maintenance Technician any apparent vandalism or other general property issues requiring attention that may be noticed while on site;
- Assisting to resolve any areas requiring maintenance or repair (e.g., water damage, burnt out lights, tripping hazards, etc.) as requested by the Maintenance Technician;
- Helping to ensure all buildings are aesthetically maintained per facility standards, including performing paint touch-ups, ensuring cleanliness standards are met, ensuring all dispensers are stocked (paper towel, toilet paper, soap, etc.), and ensuring the general facility is free from obvious damage or visual disrepair;
- Replenishing washroom and cleaning supplies and general maintenance supplies as scheduled and/or as needed;
- Helping to inspect the functionality of various building systems, including regular fire extinguisher inspections, etc. and flagging any items found non-compliant to the Maintenance Technician;
- Troubleshooting any and all building issues, performing basic replacement or repairs as needed (e.g., replacing damaged ceiling tiles, repairing leaky plumbing fixtures), and reporting the need for outside expertise as warranted to the Maintenance Technician;
- Executing general labour tasks within the facility as needed, such as hanging whiteboards, putting together or moving office furniture, safely relocating heavy items for staff, etc.

2. To help maintain the exterior grounds of the IUOE Local 793, OETIO, and OEBAC facilities by:

- Helping to inspect the property regularly, including the review of all pathways, exterior lighting, landscaping, etc. and proactively flagging any potential issues to the Maintenance Technician and performing corrective actions as authorized by the Assistant Business Manager;
- Helping to identify vandalism or other issues requiring attention and taking appropriate corrective action as required;
- Performing basic exterior landscaping activities as needed to ensure the grounds are well maintained and cleanly, including grass cutting, gardening, weeding, mulching, and so forth;
- Helping to keep the IUOE Local 793 monument and surrounding gardens pristinely kept and maintained with respect for visiting families;
- Performing snow-clearing duties including clearing all sidewalks and entrances of snow and ice, and removing all snow and ice from the driveways and parking lots;
- Ensuring grounds are free of litter and debris and that all external garbage’s and ashtrays are regularly emptied.

3. To assist in ensuring health and safety compliance for all the buildings and grounds by:

- Helping to perform maintenance and repair activities in compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and any other applicable legislations;
- Helping to perform timely corrective repairs within the required response deadlines as flagged in the JHSC action item lists.

4. To prepare the OE Banquet Hall for events by:

- Setting up the banquet hall in advance of events according to the approved floor plan;
- Assisting with the clean-up and break-down after scheduled events.

5. To perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Business Manager, Assistant Business Manager and/or Human Resources Department, including but not limited to:

- Providing transportation for people, goods and supplies as requested;
- Providing maintenance support for the Area Offices as directed.

**Job Requirements**:

- Formal education in a maintenance or technical related discipline and/or a skilled trades certification;
- Practical maintenance experience required;
- Demonstrated skills in any/all of the following areas: light carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting and equipment maintenance;
- A strong knowledge of preventative maintenance, mechanical/electrical systems, and quality control systems;
- Knowledge of and ability to operate all fire equipment;
- Demonstrates initiative and ability to work and complete scheduled tasks with mínimal intervention or supervision;
- Must demonstrate a high standard of professional conduct, ethics, and reliability;
- Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines;
- Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills;
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work;
