Position Title: Early Childhood Educator

Classification: Union

Conditions of Work: On-Site

Early Childhood Educator (Casual/Subs) - This is a casual position that will provide coverage for shifts when our Full-Time and Part-Time staff are away from work. This is an On-Site position. This position will fall under the collective agreement between the Community Social Services Bargaining Association of Unions (CSSBA) and Community Social Services Employers’ Association (CSSEA). The position will fall under the conditions of employment as a member of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) and will require union membership.

Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.

Job Summary: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House is a multi-service agency in East Vancouver where people of all ages, cultures and walks of life can make friends, participate in programs, find resources, share ideas, and contribute to community life. We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced Early Childhood Educators to join our unionized casual/subs list. Individuals that are working in our unionized casual/subs list will be eligible to help cover shifts for the following listed programs below:

- Harbourview Daycare (3-5 years)
- Kiwassa Children’s Program (Out of School Care 2:30pm to 5:30pm)
- Kiwassa On-Call Child Minding (Neighbourhood House and Family Place program)

The key responsibilities for this role include:

- Plans and implements activities and experiences for individual and group needs of all children within a consistent, child centered program environment, supports children’s emotional well-being (acknowledging, positive, supportive and empathetic) so to create a secure environment
- Facilitates responsive, educational opportunities for young children
- Guides and cares for a group of children in accordance with KNH standards
- Stays up to date with new approaches and activities, looks for innovative and appropriate activities to engage participants
- Attends to children’s physical needs that may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping
- Works together with team members to create a quality, enriched learning environment for young children
- Refers to or consults with supervisor where necessary

Qualifications:
Education and Knowledge
- Early childhood education certification
- First Aid Certificate required-Emergency Child Care First Aid or higher

Training and Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a childcare setting
- Criminal record check

Reporting Relationships:
This position reports to the Program Coordinator, and the Director of Childcare. This position has no direct staff reports.

**Salary**:
A valid ECE license is required to be eligible for JJEP Wage Grid Level 10, Step 1 $25.95/per hour.
