Upper Strings Coach

**We’re Hiring an Upper Strings Coach**
- **The Niagara Youth Orchestra Association (NYOA) is committed to the musical training of youth in the Niagara Region in a two tiered orchestral setting. The Concert Orchestra provides less experienced players with an opportunity to develop their skills by playing challenging music in both their individual sectional groups and as an orchestra. The Symphonic Orchestra provides a training ground for more experienced musicians, offering them the opportunity to improve on their own instrument, to learn to perform in a disciplined group and to gain a fuller understanding of orchestral works. Both groups of musicians have sectional rehearsals under the direction of professional coaches.**_

- _**Passion for music and belief in the impact and transformative power music has for children and the wider community**_
- _**Experience working with children in a music education and/or community music context**_
- _**Excellent communication skills with children and adults**_
- _**Professional standard of playing**_
- _**Instrumental teaching skills appropriate for the individual, group and large ensemble**_
- _**Sound teaching knowledge of the orchestral instruments within your specified section**_
- _**Creativity and ability to adapt/arrange music for appropriate skill level or instrumentation**_
- **Responsibilities of the Sectional Coach include**:_
- **The exact nature of these duties and responsibilities will change over time and the post holder will be expected to work flexibly and carry out any work that is reasonably required and is appropriate to the role.**_
- _**To work as part of a team to inspire and motivate children, parents and the wider community to join or support the Niagara Youth Orchestra (including recruitment).**_
- _**Preparing the section for the selected orchestral works according to the musical interpretation of the conductor**_
- _**Conduct the section in selected performances**_
- _**Attend full rehearsals of the orchestra when requested by the conductor**_
- _**Communicate the progress and activity of the section to the conductor**_
- _**Attend coaches’ meetings as requested by the organization**_
- **NYOA Sectional rehearsals take place Saturday mornings at Calvary Church in St. Catharines, beginning the first Saturday after Labour Day and ending the last Saturday in May, with breaks at Christmas and March Break. The coach is expected to be present from 10:00am - 11:15am, with Concert sectional running from 10:15-11:15am. There is also an opportunity to share the symphonic upper strings sectional duties from 8:45-10am. Current pay is $43.70 per hour.**_

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract

**Salary**: $40.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 - 3 per week
