The **Service Technician **is responsible for replacing and repairing residential windows and doors. The Service Technician must be able to analyze, troubleshoot and identify the appropriate course of action. Tasks may include: dismantling, aligning, assembling, removing glass and adjusting mechanical equipment for doors and windows. Work assignments will be received in both oral and written work orders. The Service Technician must determine the nature and extent of the repairs and/or service necessary as well as prepare any related documentation and service notes.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Follow health and safety standards.
- Train and instruct new and/or transferred employees.
- Support and achieve quality expectations and customer service.
- Install, repair and replace glass and related materials such as side lights, weather stripping and associated items.
- Clean and perform preparation of work-sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Use appropriate tools, safety equipment, and parts according to specific job requirements.
- Construct door and window frames, hang doors, install screens and mount hardware from rough schematics and blueprints.
- Adjust or replace balance on double hung and single hung windows.
- On-site glazing of larger units.
- On-site assemble of patio doors.
- Ensure an adequate supply of material is available for tasks.
- Clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment and tools.
- Load, unload and identify building materials, machinery and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, blueprints, structural drawings, rough sketches and specifications to determine work activities.
- Clean, scrap, sand or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines.
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times.
- Performing all other tasks as assigned.

**Qualifications and required skills**:

- Grade 12 diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid Driver’s Licence.
- Must be willing to work at heights with company provided PPE.
- Must be physically able to perform jobs requiring heavy lifting.
- Willing to work irregular hours, shift work and/or overtime when required.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience with routine maintenance.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with customers and Dashwood staff members.
- Strong work ethic and organization skills.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities; ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and in a team environment.
- Decision making skills and the ability to organize and prioritize work load to meet customer expectations.
- Actively participate in resolving issues.
- Fluent in basic reading, writing and mathematical skills and the use of a tape measure in both imperial and metric.
- Accuracy and ability to work within prescribed standards.
- Quality conscious, safe work record, good attendance and practice good housekeeping habits.
- Ability to work efficiently showing attention to detail and quality standards.

**Physical Effort Required**:

- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 - 100 lbs using lifting devices and multiple people.
- Ability to operate required equipment and tools.

**Working Conditions**:

- Work is carried out both indoors and outdoors.
- Travel to off-site locations.

**Hours of Work**:
Monday to Friday

7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Availability to work Overtime is required.
