**Reports To: Manager/Community Engagement & Prevention Services**
**Position Summary**:
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide in-home support, education and modelling to Indigenous youth and families served by this agency. The incumbent will develop and implement culturally sensitive, goal oriented, short term support plans in conjunction with the youth or family’s service team and FNIM community (where applicable) that create capacity for youth/families to care for themselves, connect to community and culture, and build networks of support around them. The incumbent will assist with supported family visits and may offer educational groups for youth or families who identify as FNIM. The incumbent will utilize community resources, where applicable, and liaise with internal teams and external agencies.
This position also may include working with children and youth with complex needs while residing in their homes, in the care of the society., transitioning into an independent living situation or transitioning to their families and communities.
This position will also include work with non-Indigenous children, youth & families. This position will include daytime and evening hours and weekends when necessary.
The incumbent will be expected to keep documentation as directed by their assigned manager following agency standards and policies.
**General Responsibilities**:
1. Encourages a culture of diversity, equity, reconciliation and inclusion while engaging, collaborating both internally and externally, and incorporating diverse views and opinions into decision-making.
2. Assists in supporting the implementation of objectives to ensure the agency's responsiveness and accountability to the diverse communities of Huron and Perth with particular focus on Indigenous, Black and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
3. Utilize anti-oppressive, critical thinking and solution focused involvements to work with families using the least disruptive course of action required to ensure child/youth safety.
4. Promote, develop, support and prioritize connections and collaboration between prevention and protection services within the agency. Work together with staff, foster/kin families, and the FNIM community as a whole to build relationships and develop services for our children/youth/families using a Signs of Safety and equity and reconciliation lens.
5. Provide culturally appropriate parent education to families where children are at risk, likely to be at risk of harm, or where there is a high potential for children to be admitted to care.
6. Provide culturally appropriate parent education to provider families where children are at risk of experiencing a breakdown in their relationships an living situation.
7. Develops and implements goal oriented, individualized short term support plans for youth and/or families in collaboration with the youth or family's service team.
8. Provide time limited culturally appropriate clinical interventions (i.e. therapeutic supported family visits involving intense clinical support and education; time-limited group facilitation).
9. Assist other staff/Providers with crisis responses as necessary, according to agency procedures/protocols.
10. Attend meetings as directed by their assigned Manager.
11. Keeps all required records and documentation as set out in Agency Standards and policies.
12. Provides supported family visits as requested that fall within the Agency's visit continuum model.
13. If subpoenaed, prepares necessary evidence and testifies in court proceedings.
14. Must have a valid drivers' license and reliable vehicle.
**Qualifications, Skills & Experience**:
Preference will be given to FNIM applicants. Successful completion of at minimum a two-year Social Services, Child and Youth, or ECE Services diploma program from a Community College. Previous experience in a related field is an asset. The incumbent will possess an understanding of Indigenous cultural practices, languages, protocols and traditions. The incumbent will also demonstrate theoretical knowledge of child/youth development and behaviour. Incumben will have good communication skills, personal suitability in working with children/youth/families, ability to work with colleagues, and presents as a positive role model.
**Difficulty of Execution**:
Major area of difficulty lies in establishing a strong working relationship with children, youth and families and being familiar with cultural responses related to l intervention such as equity-based practice, anger management, communication, problem solving, values,, nutrition, stages of change, life skills and group facilitation.
