**WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?**
You will:
- Interpret domestic and related settings and lifestyles at Upper Canada Village.
- Perform and interpret a wide range of advanced handwork skills, e.g., quilting, plain and fancy sewing, knitting, spinning, crochet work, rug making, and dressmaking.
- Interpret Village life and features and support Village initiatives.
- Ensure the safety of visitors and staff and protect the resources of the site.
- Instruct adults and children participating in various experiential programming such as residential camps and school programs.
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
**HOW DO I QUALIFY?**
MANDATORY:
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
You have:
- An understanding of the immediate historical context of all activities performed.
- An understanding of the general social, economic, and political environment of mid-19th century Canada.
- Basic knowledge of conservation practices to advise visitors on proper treatment and care of artifacts and to competently perform a variety of duties associated with the maintenance, monitoring and cleaning of artifacts.
COMMUNICATION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS
You have:
- Strong oral communication skills to engage visitors in the interpretation of a variety of hand working activities (e.g. quilting, sewing, dressmaking, rug making, spinning, weaving, etc.) and to respond effectively to customer questions and concerns.
INTERPRETIVE AND DOMESTIC SKILLS
You have:
- The ability to interpret the life, work, skills, and activities of an 1860’s domestic or professional worker.
- The ability to perform a wide range of handwork skills, e.g., quilting, plain and fancy sewing, knitting, spinning, crochet work, rug making.
