**POSITION MANDATE**

**Supervises a team of Instrumentation Specialists to complete specific projects covering, but not limited to, process design and optimization, process control, device level commissioning, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting. Primarily works through others, occasionally performs project work directly in response to circumstances. Assists Manager with departmental business.**

**REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES**

**Project Management**
- Coordinates project work with the team and the customer. Coordination includes schedules, resource allocations, and documented workplans with timelines and deliverables.
- Adjusts project workplans where required, in consultation with clients.
- Supervises inter-departmental communications and relationships in support of specific project needs.

**Project Execution**
- Oversees delegated tasks within the team and with other departments. Addresses concerns and issues as they arise.
- Provides support and direction to team members and others as needed. Ensures necessary resources are in place.
- Oversees project progress, solving problems and troubleshooting as needed.
- Undertakes direct execution of project work where required.

**Supervising the Team**
- Reviews and approves staff time and assignments.
- Allocates resources, managing the team’s time across several projects and juggling competing timelines and deadlines.
- Conducts reviews of others’ work.
- Provides feedback and coaching,
- Completes and conducts annual performance appraisals for direct reports and provides input on the performance of functional reports.
- Consults with department manager on how to address chronic performance matters.
- Ensures self and team are working in a safe manner and following safety protocols and procedures.

**Sales and Customer Relations**
- Reaches out to new and potential customers based on their own sourcing efforts and leads provided by others.
- Assists customers in scoping their needs and takes action to reach agreement to conduct the work.
- Ensures good collaboration with other departments to meet customer and project needs.
- Maintains strong relationships with existing customers, supports them in exploring options for additional services and support.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**

The position requires the completion of an Instrumentation Engineering Technology Program (or equivalent) with a minimum of 8 years of experience, preferably including some supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Provides instrumentation deliverables (e.g. drawings, technical reports) internally and externally.
- Deliverables meet quality and timeline expectations.
- Work sustains the highest standards with respect to innovation, quality and safety.
- Produces profitable results from the team i.e. chargeability of staff, job profit margins, meeting timelines, efficient use of resources, etc.
- Consistently sells and up-sells work and contracts to existing and new customers.
- Maintains profitable and long-term relations with customers.
- Progress, and planning reports regarding staff and usage are consistently positive in terms of quality of work, profitability, and customer satisfaction as well as project performance, related departmental performance regarding chargeability vs overhead costs.
- Provides helpful support and guidance to team members, builds team morale and effectiveness, corrects performance issues as they arise.
- Effectively addresses chronic performance issues. Consults and seeks support as and when required.
- Undertakes the first steps of the disciplinary process, in consultation with the Department Manager.
- Ensures team compliance with Internal quality standards, established automation standards and practices, policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulations.

**JOB SCOPE**

The incumbent holds primary responsibility to meet project expectations by leading staff on specific projects, work assignments or in day-to-day operational activities. Possesses a proven track record in delivering high quality instrumentation services that is leveraged to demonstrate leadership, and to develop and influence others. The emphasis of the work is most typically on working through others to deliver a service though directly delivering the service is occasionally required. Provides input into and ensures compliance with technical and professionalstandards and practices. Establishes and maintains long term relationships with a broad range of customers and actively participates in the sale of services to them.

**EFFORT**

The incumbent supervises a team on project assignments with competing timelines and shifting priorities. Deals with emerging and unpredictable events in a timely manner.
