**Position**: Essential Skills Facilitator

**Project**: Intercultural Youth Service Corps (IYSCorps) Program

**Hours of work**:35 hours per week

**Location**: PICS Head Office

**Project Summary**: The IYSCorps is a community needs-driven, skills enhancement, and volunteering program that assists Canadians aged between 15 to 29 years (youth) in British Columbia. It helps youth to gain valuable foundational and transferable skills through essential skills training. In addition, the participants receive support for volunteering placements, designing youth-led and youth-driven community-based projects, and finding sustainable and innovative solutions to address emerging community needs aligned with Sustainability Development Goals.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- develops curriculum, workshops and learning materials to facilitate effective employment, job search, life skills and career planning workshops;
- ensures workshop materials and delivery are tailored to meet youth learning styles and needs;
- maintains collaborative relationships with team members to assess and monitor youth progress to support success;
- maintains client, service and statistical data as required by the funder;
- ensures that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of all clients are maintained;
- follows up and provides ongoing support and coaching to youth as necessary and monitor progress until service objectives have been met;
- helps host a graduation ceremony for participants, where employers, case managers, youth workers, school counsellors, family members, friends, etc. will be invited to share their success in the surrey intercultural youth service corps project;
- gives youth, including underrepresented youth groups, the acquired skills to find and maintain productive employment in the future through essential skills training and hands-on volunteer experience;
- conducts information sessions for potential project clients;
- conducts an appropriate assessment of participants’ barriers, skills, education, experience, motivation, and employment readiness by using relevant assessment tools;
- facilitates event management workshops, as needed;
- proofreads and edits all client documents before handing them back to clients;
- conducts one on one sessions with participants on a regular basis to determine progress, troubleshoot, and assist the participants in seeking solutions;
- participates in the marketing and promotional activities individually and as conducted jointly by staff; distributes flyers to employers, community agencies, organizations and employment service centers to promote the program;
- creates a training plan and arranges short-term skills training for program participants;
- coaches participants to develop their interviewing skills; assists participants in networking with employers, and monitors their progress;
- connects participants with appropriate community resources; and
- performs other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.

**Qualifications & Experience**
- completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/ Social Work or a related discipline; or the equivalent of education, training, experience and certification;
- CDP designation is an asset;
- experience in facilitating and delivering programs;
- experience working with youth population;
- hands-on experience with all aspects of organizing events;
- competence in networking and building relationships with various stakeholders;
- proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite;
- knowledge of local labour market issues;
- experience in a not-for-profit organization is a definite asset;
- excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
- outstanding leadership skills;
- creative and shows initiative;
- fluency in a second language (French, Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog, etc.) is a definite asset;
- able to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends may be required to meet the operational needs of the project);
- valid BC drivers licence and reliable vehicle insured for business use with $2 million liability and clean drivers abstract; and
- clean Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).

**Salary**: $26.00-$28.00 per hour
