- **About the Position**:_

The Memory Care Manager enriches the lives of residents everyday by developing and coordinating meaningful programs and services to meet their social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs. They will also play a large role in managing the Metta Memory program by providing a unique person-centered approach to memory care placing emphasis on relationships, supporting the interactions with residents and their families and establishing strong social connection to develop trust and familiarity.
- **Key Responsibilities**:_
- Works closely with General Manager, Health & Wellness Manager and other department managers to execute Metta Memory program;
- Interacts with Metta Memory residents daily by focusing on building relationships with residents and families;
- Provide direction to Care Companion(s);
- Assists residents with completing all activities of daily living;
- Assesses resident’s condition throughout the day by observing their grooming, change in habits/routines, change in participation patterns, mood and more;
- Responds to resident or family member concerns and ensures that appropriate action is taken;
- Provides comfort, a sense of belonging and a feeling of safety and emotional security to residents;
- Assists in providing residents with a sense of routine and structure while supporting the requirements for flexibility and spontaneity;
- Reviews resident’s life history and Care Plan on a regular basis and partners with the residents to assist them (where necessary) with activities of daily living such as making the bed, dusting, setting tables, doing the dishes, reading the newspaper, watching a television show, going for a walk, doing a puzzle, listening to the radio, washing/folding, etc.;
- Collects linen laundry and personal laundry;
- Participates and plans specialized life-enrichment programming, family-style dining;
- Administers medications in accordance with Metta Memory policies and procedures;
- Participates in and/or leads group and individual activities as required;
- Play a role in recruitment of as well as ensure proper training and orientation of new staff to the Memory Care Team;
- Scheduling, ensure compliance and performance management for team members as required;
- Completes required administrative duties and documentation;
- Identify opportunities for social interaction by engaging residents in conversation (sharing stories, interests, etc.);
- Participates in all in-service training and education programs;
- Other duties as assigned.
- **Qualifications**:_
- Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent;
- Previous experience working with individuals with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
- Post-secondary education in related care fields of Personal Support Worker, Health Care Aide, or DSW is an asset;
- Knowledge of conversational Italian is an asset;
- Prior experience managing a team or in a leadership role is an asset;
- Completion of specialized behavioral education certification program an asset (GPA, P.I.E.C.E.S, Montessori Methods);
- A warm personality with demonstrated empathy and understanding of the needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease;
- Effective interpersonal relationship and conflict resolution skills;
- Must be able to operate related equipment;
- Ability to respond to emergency situations;
- Initiative and judgment in recognizing symptoms indicative of a person’s change in routine behaviour;
- Recognize that they are part of a 24 hour team.
- RPN Registration is an asset.
