Peer Support Worker

We are looking for a special someone who is interested in working with a, dedicated team of Peer Support Providers at ROCK to make a difference in the lives of families in Halton.
Reporting to the Manager of **Manager - Specialized Consultation**, the **Peer Support Worker** will understand that Families have a critical role to play in promoting and supporting the mental health of their children and youth, with a focus on children in the 2-18 age range. This position will promote the resilience of families, with a focus on increasing their capacity to support children and youth with mental health needs.
The Peer Support Provider will walk alongside a caregiver in their journey to support their children/youth in their care. Our practices incorporate evidence-informed and leading practices in the field. Peer Support Core Skills training will be provided to ensure the Peer Support Provider has the formalized skills to implement the role.
Please note that this is a** Permanent - Full Time position, **working **35 hours weekly.**
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work in partnership with a Care Coordinator alongside the family, and members of their care team (physicians, community service providers, educators, etc.).
- Act as part of a family-centred, multidisciplinary team, responsible for assisting in the non-clinical development and implementation of individual family care plans.
- Assess the strengths and needs of the family on an ongoing basis.
- Provide peer support through a variety of methods, including client meetings, phone contact, social drop in programming, and formalized wellness groups.
- Provide peer support and act as a guide for families throughout the entire course of their service, through;
- Validating client experiences and concerns of caregivers.
- Ensuring families’ voice and choices are heard and respected by professionals.
- Assisting families in understanding the information that professionals have given them.
- Assisting families in identifying their formal and informal supports
- Modelling wellness and self-care.
- Supporting caregiver to increase their capacity.
- Adhere to paperwork and documentation requirements for the initiative, including electronic client information system.
- Maintain current knowledge of all services at ROCK and with community services within the Halton Region.
- Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care and, by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
- Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as any further health and safety responsibility as outlined in the agency policy and procedure documents.
- Other duties as may be reasonably be assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**_ Education:_**
- Minimum of a high school diploma.
**_ Experience:_**
- Must have lived experience as the primary caregiver (which could include Foster Parents or family members who are in a care providing role of a child of youth with emotional or behavioural challenges), who has accompanied that child through a child serving system (i.e., mental health, child welfare of youth justice).
- Experienced in group facilitation and public speaking is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of local community resources.
**_Requirements:_**
- Access to reliable transportation in alignment with program needs.
- Proficient in the use of technology as required of the position, including working in a virtual environment with MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
- The ability to work evenings as required.
- A current (within three months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
