MH’s Environmental Business Unit is looking for an Arborist/Restoration Biologist to join our growing Environmental Planning and Ecology East Team. MH key clients in Ontario include MTO, Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario as well as numerous municipalities. Our Environmental BU is focused on diversifying our client base in Ontario to include new public and private sector clients.
Our Environmental services are broad reaching and integrated with our multi-disciplinary teams. Through environmental planning and management, we work towards net positive impacts of our clients’ projects, increasingly with a focus on sustainability and making a difference on climate. Through environmental engineering, geoscience, and ecology we delve into and solve problems over wide ranging scales and with a broad geographic coverage.
**Responsibilities**:
- Work as part of a multi-discipline team to provide technical expertise and guidance for arborist related services and site restoration
- Lead project components which include fieldwork and reporting for tree/botanical inventories, tree health assessments, arborist reports, and tree preservation plans
- Complete and coordinate fieldwork across Ontario
- Ensure a high degree of QC for data analysis and reporting
- Liaison with internal groups and external clients on a variety of projects
- Review project designs and complete impact analysis and prepare compensation and ecological restoration plans
- Contribute to the preparation of proposal workplans and budgets
Qualifications:
- ISA Arborist Certification
- Post secondary degree or diploma in environmental science, biology, arboriculture, horticulture or related field
- Minimum 4 years of related work experience
- Previous environmental consulting experience
- Ability to review and understand engineering design plans and drawings
- Demonstrated field experience with the collection, analysis and interpretation of survey data
- Working knowledge and experience with tree by-laws and policies across Ontario
- Ability to identity flora to a high degree of certainty in both leaf-on and leaf-off conditions, including use of keys
- Familiarity with the Ecological Land Classification (ELC) system
- Experience with impact assessment and development of compensation and restoration plans
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills
- Experience being responsible for multiple projects while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a demanding consulting environment
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle
- Valid First Aid and CPR
