**POSITION TITLE**: Maintenance Supervisor
**FUNCTION**: TO MAINTAIN SHELTER HOUSE FACILITIES AND ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH RELEVANT STANDARDS

**A. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITES**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Maintenance Supervisor will service, coordinate, and maintain Shelter House equipment and utility systems to meet the goals of the organization. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee and direct the activities of the Cleaner.

**B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Maintenance**
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance
- Maintain safety equipment within the building (e.g., fire extinguishers, smoke alarms)
- Inspect building for health and safety hazards
- Coordinate and assist with snow removal
- Install new equipment as needed
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance
- Arrange regular vehicle servicing
- Update vehicle safety certificates
- Perform general plumbing maintenance (e.g., replacing washers, plumbing fixtures)
- Perform carpentry, painting, dry wall patching as per general building maintenance
- Perform basic electrical repair
- Service and oversee any alarm systems within the building
- Ensure compliance with licensing standards and building codes
- Coordinate building maintenance activities that fall beyond the scope of certification
- Responsible for the maintenance of Shelter House buildings, utility systems and vehicles
- Other duties as assigned

**Supervision**
- Assign duties to cleaning staff as required
- Evaluate supervised employee(s) and provide feedback where needed
- Orientate and train cleaning staff

**Administrative**
- Create and manage building maintenance program
- Procure quotes from service providers to facilitate maintenance requirements
- Record daily maintenance activities and review on monthly basis
- Monitor and audit condition of building
- Facilitate purchase of equipment, supplies and necessary fixtures
- Submit necessary documentation in a timely manner (e.g., time sheets, budget expenditures, maintenance reports, vacation requests, etc.)
- Develop and maintain maintenance schedules
- Advise the Executive Director/Operations Supervisors of necessary building improvements

**Cleaning**
- Carry out general cleaning duties as needed
- Oversee and assist with cleaning operations

**Miscellaneous**
- Comply with Shelter House policies and procedures
- Within the scope of Maintenance Worker, represent the mission and values of the Shelter House

**C. JOB SPECIFICATION**

**Education**
- Post-secondary education in a related technical/trade field
- Valid driver's license

**Experience**
- Experience with building maintenance

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety an asset
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals
- Familiar with common tools associated with building maintenance
- Adept at building maintenance duties
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Versed in building codes and standards for the Province of Ontario and City of Thunder Bay
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Skill in repairing a variety of mechanical equipment

**Working Conditions**
- Varied (e.g., outdoor winter conditions, indoor well-ventilated office)
- Frequent lifting, pulling, and pushing
- Finger dexterity to operate maintenance equipment and computers
- Exposure to cleaning/disinfecting chemicals, oil/grease
- Conditions associated with traveling between sites of operation and contracted services/store fronts

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
