Through an active collecting program, the Museum acquires annually thousands of artefacts and archival documents. From April 2020 to April 2023, the Museum declared a moratorium on acquisitions in order to review its collection policies. This moratorium allowed the Museum to catch up on processing and cataloguing backlogged acquisitions. Therefore, the Collections Management department wishes to hire a student to help with the inventory and cataloguing of several donations that reflect the social history and material culture of Montreal, Quebec and Canada.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Reporting to the Assistant Head, Collections Management, the Cataloguer will use the collections management software TMS (“The Museum System”) for all cataloguing functions and will have the following responsibility:

- Formulate a distinct descriptive fact sheet in the artefact database for each item acquired, then perform a Level 2 and 3 cataloguing (administrative information and basic data, namely: taking measurements, transcribing marks, dating, identifying mediums, materials and techniques, attributing titles and keywords, etc.);

**To do this, the incumbent will**:

- Learn about collections management, an area of museum studies where expertise is mainly gained through hands-on experience;
- Learn to use one of the best collections management systems (TMS);
- Inventory and catalogue artefacts from a variety of disciplines (Documentary Art and Photography collections);
- Meet goals and respect deadlines by being organized;

**Employment Conditions**
- Temporary summer student employment; 35 hours per week, from June 5th to September 1st, 2023;
- Duration: 13 weeks;
- Salary of $17 per hour;

**Qualifications and Profile Required**
- Undergraduate student in history, applied history or art history (two years full time completed);
- IT knowledge (Windows, Microsoft, databases, etc.);
- Special interest in the history of Montreal, photography, documentary art, material culture, museum studies and the decolonization of museum practices an asset;
- Research and analysis skills;
- Sound judgment, independence and adaptability;
- Excellent knowledge of both official languages (French and English).
