Intermediate Wildlife Biologist

Reporting to the Senior Wildlife Biologist, Shuswap Band’s Intermediate Wildlife Biologist is responsible for supporting the Shuswap Wildlife team in the development and implementation of projects related to territorial stewardship, habitat conservation, species at risk protections, and other strategic priorities as identified by Shuswap Band’s Chief & Council. They participate in working groups related to wildlife objectives and collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate, implement, and monitor wildlife projects, representing Shuswap Band’s priorities and values relating to caribou, elk, bighorn sheep, and other ungulates and mammals. They can work effectively and comfortably in a team setting, with strong communication, time, and project management skills. They provide technical support and advocate for Shuswap Band’s wildlife priorities throughout the Caretaker Area.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support implementation of wildlife projects.
- Participate in internal and external meetings and technical working groups.
- Review wildlife related referrals for projects in the Shuswap territory and provide a technical response based on scientific data and Shuswap values and concerns.
- Coordinate projects, including planning and scheduling.
- Implement scientific research, assessments and studies, and report on findings.
- Collect and analyse scientific data.
- Prepare technical reports, communication briefing, and project summaries.
- Provide advice based on current knowledge of wildlife biology, ecology, conservation, and management to senior decision makers.
- Facilitate productive knowledge-sharing and relationship building sessions on Shuswap Wildlife projects and initiatives with the Shuswap Band community and partners.
- Work to incorporate Traditional Ecological Knowledge of wildlife and habitats with Western Science.
- Promote a strong safety culture and participate proactively in the safety program.
- Commit to protecting and advancing Shuswap Band title and rights.
- May supervise biological technologists, technicians, and/or guardians.
- Other relevant assigned duties, within your scope of practice.

**Education and Experience**:

- Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biology (CAB), or eligible within one year. Ability to transfer from an applicable jurisdiction to the College of Applied Biology (CAB) would also be considered.
- Strong understanding of relevant provincial and federal acts, regulations, and policies such as, but not limited to: British Columbia _Forest and Range Practices Act_, British Columbia _Wildlife Act_, or Federal _Species at Risk Act_.
- Experience in implementing and managing studies, technical writing, mitigation and management plans.
- Experience delivering presentations.
- Experience working with a First Nation organization or within a culturally sensitive environment would be considered an asset.
- A master’s degree in biology, zoology, or a related discipline with a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, or a Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of (5) years related work experience would be considered an asset.

**Conditions of Employment**:

- Must complete and pass a criminal record check.
- Must have a Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable access to a vehicle.
